Membership in the American Clan Gregor Society
The American Clan Gregor Society (ACGS) is a genealogical society welcoming those with verified ties to the historic Clan Gregor and its many Septs. Membership is open to individuals of all ages who meet the genealogical requirements described below.
Membership Categories
Lineal Membership
You qualify for Lineal Membership if you:
- Are 18 or older, and
- Bear the MacGregor name (or a recognized Sept surname) with ancestry traceable to Scotland or the Americas prior to 1870, or
- Descend from an ancestor born before 1812 with the surname Magruder or MacGehee.
Associate Membership
Spouses of Lineal Members may join as Associate Members.
Associate Members:
- May vote
- May hold any office except Chieftain or Ranking Deputy Chieftain
Junior Membership
For those under 18 who bear an approved MacGregor or Sept name and can trace ancestry to Scotland or the Americas prior to 1870.
Provisional Membership
For applicants who believe they qualify as Lineal Members but need time to complete documentation. Provisional Members:
- May remain in this category for up to 2 years
- Pay the same dues as Lineal Members
- Enjoy all Lineal Member benefits except voting and holding office
If documentation is later completed, full Lineal Membership may be granted without penalty.
Honorary Membership
Awarded to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to ACGS.
Honorary Membership cannot be requested and is granted only by the Council and the Annual Membership.

- Complete the form as thoroughly as possible.
- Submit the form and required fees to the Registrar.

- is for those people who do not have all the necessary materials available at the time or who are unsure if they qualify and would like some time to determine their status. This membership costs the same annual amount as Lineal Membership and membership expires two years after approval. Provisional members are entitled to all the benefits of Lineal Members but cannot hold any office nor can they vote on any issues.
Membership Dues
- Lineal: $40/year
- Associate: $40/year
- Junior: One‑time $5 fee
- Application Fee (all new members except Junior): $20
- Provisional: $40/year, valid for a maximum of 2 years
Dues are payable annually.
