Welcome to the American Clan Gregor Society

We’re glad you’ve stopped by to learn a little more about who we are, what we do, and how you can connect with fellow descendants of one of Scotland’s most storied clans. Whether you’re a longtime member or someone just beginning to explore your MacGregor roots, were here to help guide you.

Sir Malcolm MacGregor of MacGregor, the 24th Chief of Clan Gregor, and Lady MacGregor warmly represent our heritage at the highest level. As Lady MacGregor often says, “We may not live in Scotland, but Scotland lives in me,” and that sentiment resonates with many of us across America who proudly carry the legacy of our ancestors.

The American Clan Gregor Society (ACGS) is a genealogy‑based charitable organization founded in 1909, making it one of the oldest Scottish clan societies in the United States. Our membership includes individuals who can trace their lineage to MacGregors who came to America before 1870. For generations, our Society has worked to preserve, celebrate, and pass down the stories and traditions that make Clan Gregor such an important part of Scottish history.

One of the main ways we accomplish this is through gathering and preserving genealogical information. These records are stored at the Langsdale Library at the University of Baltimore, where members and researchers can study family lines, explore historical documents, and deepen their understanding of their ancestry. Many members find that discovering a new connection or branch in their family tree brings the past to life in a meaningful way.

We also look forward each year to our annual Gathering—a time when members from across the country come together to reconnect, share stories, and celebrate our heritage. These events blend tradition, camaraderie, and learning, creating an experience that many people come back for year after year.

Communication is important to us as well, and we work to keep members informed through our newsletter, our yearbook, and regular updates. We’re especially excited to now offer access to the Scottish Banner, giving members even more ways to stay connected to Scottish culture and news. We are continually refining and updating the materials we share—By-laws, Policies and Procedures, reports, and more—so members can keep up with the documents that guide the Society.

Education has always been a priority for us. Each year, the Society awards several scholarships to help support students within our community. We recently added a piping scholarship located in Valle Crucis, North Carolina, as part of our commitment to preserving traditional Scottish arts. Supporting the next generation—both academically and culturally—is a responsibility we take seriously, and we are proud to help students pursue their goals.

Thank you for visiting our page. We hope you’ll explore further, stay connected, and continue celebrating the legacy of Clan Gregor with us.
